The FISU World University Games, organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), is one of the world’s largest sporting events. After five years of preparation, the 31st FISU Summer World University Games will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan in July 2023.
Dong'an Lake Stadium is the venue for the opening ceremony of the 31st FISU Summer World University Games. The azure Dong'an Lake ripples in the early summer breeze, surrounding the high-tech and modern Dong'an Lake Stadium standing on the shore. The Sun God Bird, enlarged 2.7 million times from its original size, spreads its wings above the perfectly circular dome of the UFO-shaped stadium. The Dong'an Lake Sports Park, covering over 5,000 mu with the layout of "one lake, one ring, seven islands and twelve scenic spots", has become a new landmark of Chengdu.
As the host city, Chengdu has integrated the concept of green and low-carbon development into the planning and execution of the Games. Various changes have taken place in Chengdu as it builds a park city for the event, including an increase in vitality and green elements — each year, the number of sunny days with clear snow-capped mountain silhouettes either increases or remains stable; more and more people are captured by cameras running on the greenways inadvertently.
Water quality is one of the most critical factors to ensure the safe and successful holding of sports events. Both event water (for aquatic sports such as swimming, diving and water polo) and drinking water for athletes need to be strictly tested to meet international standards.
In addition, environmental water quality is also crucial: poor water quality can lead to a series of health problems, including skin irritation, respiratory issues and even infections. Beyond health risks, poor water quality also affects the overall experience of athletes and spectators. Foul-smelling or discolored water may prevent athletes from participating in competitions and spectators from watching. Negative publicity surrounding poor water quality can also damage the reputation of the host city and the event itself.
The Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee has proactively taken action. Recently, Chasing Innovation was honored to participate in water quality governance and water environment protection projects, adopting the most innovative measure — the Chasing M200 PRO Industrial-Grade Underwater Drone — for underwater observation and water quality testing in Dong'an Lake.
The Chasing M200 PRO can dive to a depth of 200 meters with an operating radius of up to 400 meters. Equipped with 8 vector-layout thrusters, its high-power motors deliver strong power. It has a built-in expansion dock that can carry 5 accessories simultaneously, a 4K anti-shake camera, and external 8000-lumen LED lights that provide clear images in dim underwater environments.
In water quality governance and water environment protection scenarios, the Chasing M200 PRO can be equipped with the Chasing Water Sampler and Chasing Multi-Parameter Water Quality Sensor to conduct multi-layer, multi-point sampling and real-time detection in designated areas of Dong'an Lake.
The Chasing Water Sampler has a large sampling capacity of 500ml with super sealing performance, enabling multiple tests with a single water collection. It can also be equipped with multiple sampling bottles to meet sampling needs in different areas and depths.
The Chasing Multi-Parameter Water Quality Sensor integrates multiple probes and can simultaneously detect 5 parameters — "pH value", "dissolved oxygen", "turbidity", "conductivity" and "salinity" — in target water areas, providing comprehensive and accurate detection data for water quality testing reports.
During the underwater observation and water quality testing mission in Dong'an Lake, the Chasing M200 PRO was equipped with a Chasing robotic arm to capture high-definition images of the real environment and plants in the lake, as well as to perform debris cleaning and other testing tasks.
The World University Games is not only an international sports event but also a platform for young people from different cultural backgrounds around the world to communicate. The Dong'an Lake Sports Park aims to convey the concept of "dialogue between humans and nature" to athletes from all over the world. Through effective real-time water quality monitoring, the Universiade Organizing Committee can quickly identify and respond to any issues, minimize risks, and ensure the safe and successful operation of the Games.
Integrating the green and low-carbon concept into water quality monitoring — such as the use of the Chasing M200 PRO Underwater Drone — not only brings environmental benefits but also has significant practical advantages over traditional water quality monitoring methods. Its underwater operation capability replaces manual labor, reducing the risk of personnel injury, improving efficiency and saving economic costs. Its high-definition camera can capture detailed images and videos of the underwater environment, providing valuable data for environmental analysis and decision-making. The Chasing underwater drone is a valuable tool for water quality monitoring at the Chengdu Universiade. Its use in the Dong'an Lake Sports Park demonstrates the power of technology and sets an example for future sports events.
